Olive Oil Export from Albania: Requirements, Documents and Markets

Albanian oil has passed a test that many producers never try: the sale in Italy, where every family has its own opinion about olive oil. During 2023 and 2024 we shipped over 2,200 tons to this market.
What the export market is looking for
The international buyer does not ask about family history at the first meeting. Ask about three things:
- Consistency: the oil of the tenth batch should be the same as the first batch
- Capacity: if you need 50 tons per month, you should get it every month
- Documentation: analysis, certifications, traceability to the parcel
The taste comes after that. An excellent oil that cannot be replicated does not enter into a supply contract.
Documents for an export shipment
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- Certificate of origin
- Certificate of organic production, when the product is sold as organic
- Laboratory analysis of the batch: acidity, peroxides, spectrophotometric indicators
- Health or food safety certificate, as required by the country
- Labeling in the language of the destination market
The European Union and the US have different labeling requirements. This is the part that most often stops small producers, not the quality of the oil.
Markets with potential for Albanian oil
Italy remains the main destination, both as a trader and as a processor. Germany and the Nordic countries require certified organic produce and pay for it. USA and Canada require brand history and strong packaging. Gulf countries show growing interest in premium oil.
Cooperation with sub-production and private label
