Olive Oil in Kosovo: Supplied Directly by an Albanian Producer

Kosovo does not produce olive oil. Its continental climate does not allow olive groves, so everything on the shelves in Pristina, Prizren or Peja is imported. The real question is from whom, and through how many middlemen.

The short route has advantages

Oil from Fier reaches Pristina within a day’s journey. Compare that with an oil that travels from Spain to a warehouse in northern Italy, then to an importer, then to a distributor. Every middleman adds cost and time – and time is the enemy of olive oil.

Albania and Kosovo also share simplified trade rules under regional agreements, which reduces the administrative burden compared with imports from outside the region.

For households

Individual deliveries are made through transport services operating between the two countries. Family orders are usually for 5–20 litres, because the shipping cost is spread over the volume and you place one order instead of six.
